How the fish feed pellet machinery working:

Raw Material Mixing: The ingredients, which can include fish meal, soybean meal, wheat flour, cornmeal, vitamins, minerals, and water, are thoroughly mixed to form a uniform feed mixture.
Conditioning: The mixture is conditioned by adding steam and water to achieve the right moisture content. Conditioning helps in improving the pellet quality and digestibility of the feed.
Extrusion: The conditioned mixture is then fed into the extruder. Inside the extruder, a combination of heat, pressure, and mechanical action cooks and processes the mixture. The extrusion process involves forcing the mixture through a die with specific pellet hole sizes, shaping the feed into pellets.
Cutting and Sizing: As the feed mixture is extruded through the die, it’s cut into individual pellets of the desired length. The size and shape of the pellets can be adjusted by changing the die and cutter configurations.
Drying: The freshly extruded pellets are often high in moisture content. They need to be dried to reduce their moisture content to a level suitable for storage. This is typically done using a dryer or by allowing the pellets to air-dry.
Cooling: After drying, the pellets are usually passed through a cooling system to reduce their temperature. This helps prevent moisture condensation and preserves the quality of the pellets.
Packaging: Once the pellets are cooled and dried, they are ready for packaging. They can be bagged or stored in bulk, depending on the intended distribution and use.

Optimal processing characteristics of these ingredients are not only reflected in higher production output and reduced energy consumption during processes like grinding, mixing, or pelleting, but more importantly, in the water stability of the final fish feed pellets.

Starch is typically a crucial component in aquatic feeds, ranging from 5% to 60% in content. It is recommended that sinking fish feed contain 10% to 15% starch, while floating fish feed should have a starch content of at least 20%. During the extrusion process of fish feed pellets, carbohydrates serve multiple roles, including as binders, suspending agents, and emulsifiers. They play a key role in determining the structure and unique sensory properties of extruded products.
